“Being free from worry about financial things is a real blessing. Of course, you don't need a billion to get to that point.

Study after study shows that making more will increase your happiness about up to the point where you can stop worrying about covering essentials and absorb the shocks and setbacks life inevitably throws your way. After that, having strong relationships and more time are greater predictors of well being.”

―Bill Gates

Greetings,

Welcome to this month's client newsletter for the goal-focused, long-term, equity investor.
Buying and selling a famous sports team gets all the attention, but simply investing in the average of the top 500 American companies would have resulted in higher returns - without any work or stress.

We, of course, wouldn't invest in the S&P 500 since it is just an index (by definition "average"), but instead the American Funds Growth Portfolio, for example.

Are They Companies or Stocks?
In this month’s edition Nick posits a thought experiment in which he lists ten great companies hat his family patronizes all but daily. He then asks whether, if their stock prices went down by half, he would cut back on – or even cease – his patronage of these great companies.

This serves as the ultimate real-world differentiation between companies and stocks.
